Okay, it’s been about 4 years since I started wearing makeup and it took me all that time to discover what ultimately works for my skin/face/weather/etc after so much of trial and error… I think there’s still more to discover, but l feel like I’ve found my Mr. Right makeup products for the most part (and of course I finally found my actual Mr. Right too hehe)
So before I start talking about the products, let me share a bit “about me” to cross reference with below…
Age: 27+ Native Sri Lankan
Skin type: Dry. When I live in Sri Lanka (humid areas) skin is more normal to dry but whenever I go out of the tropics (in less humid areas) skin gets super dry and start peeling off…
Skin tone: Medium/Tan If I refer to MAC, it’s currently NC41
Undertone: Warm/Olive I burn very easily. My face is lighter than my body.
Eyes: Dark Brown with tiny amber flecks. I did LASIK 2.5 years ago so no more contact lenses! I don’t have sensitive eyes though.
Hair: Originally soft black but now coloured in dark brown with blonde balayage
Lashes: I have pretty thin but slightly curvy lashes. Generally any mascara can work
Pigmentation: No, but face has a few uneven tones (forehead is tan and cheeks are pale)
Dark Circles: Yes! My under eye area is very sallow to a point I need some fillers soon. But makeup is here for now 🙂
Brows: Soft black, scanty and over-plucked during high-school as did all 90s kids!
Other: Most lipsticks make my teeth look yellow and I’m not vegan (Oops! But let’s be honest, right?)
Ok, I believe the above info would give you an idea about me sans makeup and skincare… If you have any similarities, some things from my list might work for you… But of course like everything else, makeup and skincare varies from person to person. If you struggle with some problems I had I hope this post would help you 🙂
For my moisturiser I like MAC Mineralise Timecheck Lotion It works wonders on my dry skin
For foundation I have two options… The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation is so amazing for dry skin as it doesn’t cake up or settle into fine lines. It makes your skin look so fresh and it smells amazing. My shade is Amber 050, which is ever so slightly darker than my skin, but once you blend it well it matches my face to my body.
Surprisingly the above foundation didn’t work when I was living in Turkey two months ago… It started feeling heavy and looking less natural so I went for the infamous NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (my shade is Syracuse, which is again slightly darker)
For concealer I go for NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (shade is Ginger)
I love loose powders to set my under eyes. MAC Prep+Prime CC Loose Powder in Illuminate is my current favourite because it further corrects any sallowness in the under eye area. I have yet to write a full review on this so stay tuned for that 🙂
For highlighters I’m still dying over Anastasia Beverly Hills That Glow Kit. I haven’t found a highlighter better than “Bubbly” from this kit yet!
My favourite bronzer is Casino from NARS. I hit pan on this last week as I’ve been using this non-stop for the past two years.
I love this cushion blush “Milkshake” from Sephora. It works wonders on dry skin, making your cheeks look healthy and glowing. I also have the shade in “Bubbly Syrup” which is great for summer time.
If I ever contour, for creams I use MUFE Pro Sculpting Palette. Works great for my skin tone.
For powder contour my Mr. Right is MAC All The Right Angles Palette in Dark:
Brows are everything these days and ever since I got Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade, I knew it was love at first sight! My shade is Dark Brown.
For eyeshadow I’m hooked on to Modern Renaissance Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills.
My favourite Gel Liner is by L’Oreal. I will do a full review on this but I’m already on my 2nd pot since 2014. Never going for another gel liner because this is so amazing and super affordable!
I love MAC In Extreme 3D Lash Mascara. It’s not waterproof but I love the way my lashes look when I use this.
My Mr.Right lipstick is hands down Kinda Sexy from MAC. It’s a gorgeous everyday peachy nude in matte finish. I believe this suits a variety of skin tones
To finish up, I love spraying MAC Fix Plus so my makeup stays longer and looks more put together and really natural.
I’m glad I finally met my Mr. Rights in makeup and in real life… These are the products I would keep repurchasing… Do you think you’ve found yours?
Xx
