The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation Review

Liquid foundation was not included in my everyday makeup routine about 3 months ago, but ever since my skin turned dry from oily, I started switching to liquid from powders and I’m loving the new routine. (On some days I totally ditch powders, and you can read thatĀ post over here)

Since I have dry skin, I’m using Maybelline’s SuperStay foundation, which is good for all skin-types (my shade isĀ #40 Fawn) but when I attended The Body Shop launch in Colombo I swatch-ed their Fresh Nude Foundation (meant for all skin types) and fell in love with it instantly because of its semi-dewy look.

Fresh Nude Foundation typically comes in: 16 shades ranging from porcelain to deep chestnut, but in Sri Lanka you can get only 3 shades for medium to medium/tan skin tones. Since we have a broad spectrum of skin colours in Sri Lanka, I was expecting a few more shades varying from medium to deep, but hopefully we’ll get more of the darker shades for our beautiful deep skin girls in the future. (From the look of it those available shades would fit between MAC NC35 to NC45)

Shades currently available in Sri Lanka (during launch):

  • Dunes 045
  • Amber 050
  • Honey 055

My shade was closest to Amber 050 (My MAC reference varies from NC35 to NC41) but Amber was slightly too dark and the lighter shade Dunes 045 wasĀ too light for me. I picked Amber 050 because I can always mix it with my MAC NC35 to make it the right shade for me.

The finish was:Ā Semi-matte, andĀ my face looked quite fresh than howĀ MAC Studio Fix Fluid would even do. I’m loving the fresh, slightly dewy effect it gives.

Coverage was:Ā Medium and build-able. I used my favourite round buffer brush from Juvia’s to buff it all over my face. You can see that it is ever so slightly darker than my complexion, but I fixed this by adding a light layer of MAC Studio Fix Powder in NC25 (two tones lighter to NC35) I guess this particular shade (Amber 050) would fit someone who has MAC’s NC41 or 42 complexion, which areĀ like the most popular shades for South Asians.

before and after

Price: LKR 5500.00 I think it’s a good price point even though it’s slightly on the higher side of the scale. Seeing how most Facebook and Instagram sellers rip-off their customersĀ with crazy prices on super drugstore products, this foundation is fully worth for LKR 5500.00

Overall experience was: Better than what I expected. I absolutely love this product and I’m so glad I picked it up! It still looked fresh after a full day at office followed by a yoga session of 1.5 hours so definitely worth buying it! I used only my current moisturiser (LancĆ“me Absolue Premium Day Cream) underneath this foundation, and it didn’t crease or turn oily (wasn’t expecting any oiliness as my skin is quite dry) so if you have dry skin, you’ll love this product! Also note that it has a slight scent, which I loved to my own surprise because I usually hate it when my makeup have fragrances. This was a refreshing scent so I really enjoyed it, but if you’re sensitive to scented makeup, keep this fact in mind when you’re purchasing this product.

I highly recommend you to check out this foundation, especially if you live in Sri Lanka and you have a hard time finding a good foundation that will not make you look ashy and completely different (think about Sri LankanĀ brides!) Honestly apart from LancĆ“me and YSL counters here (which are not very affordable for many of us here) The Body Shop is the only place I saw carrying a wearable foundation specially for our olive under tones. Fingers crossed they’ll bring more shades…

If you’re new to The Body Shop products, note that they are cruelty-free šŸ™‚

Here are some comparison swatches of other foundations I use:
