Favourites and Regrets of 2018 (Makeup)

I purchased so much makeup than I anticipated this year, because last year I thought I would take a break from beauty shopping in 2018. But it’s really difficult with social media, specially when you see new products every day on Instagram and blogger raving about them! Some of these products were released earlier than 2018, but regardless, let’s see if I made the right choices in my expenditure for makeup this year…

All about that base

Starting with base products… I’m not a big fan of primers, and I never wear them on myself. But for my clients, I always use primer. This year I added two to my kit (none of them are new to the makeup universe though)

Benefit Porefessional & Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r

I use Benefit for clients with large pores and this one is magical for that! I wish I added this to my kit earlier. Fenty Primer is great for oily skin, and it also reduces the appearance of pores. Both are my favorites!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation

This was released last year, but I did not honestly understand the hype around Fenty Beauty (I thought it was overhyped because of Rihanna) but boy, I understand it now! This is my current favorite foundation because it gives the most natural semi-matte finish and a soft filtered effect on the skin. It definitely blurs the pores. The only downside is that this oxidized on most people. I should be the shade 300, but I use 290, and that oxidized to 300 in about 10 minutes. It’s pricey but totally worth it! It’s a favorite!

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

I’m not gonna lie, I have a love/hate relationship with this one. This is so beautiful when I have good skin, but whenever I have even the tiniest of bad skin, it looks awful! I don’t recommend this if you live in the tropics and if you have very oily skin. I think I’d find this more useful when I go back to the drier climate in Turkey next February. I’m in two minds. It’s neither a favorite nor hate-it!

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Illuminating

This is another hyped up product that so many bloggers and celebrities swear by! I like to use this when I have good skin and less things to cover. It’s nice, even though there’s nothing to rave about it. It’s a favorite though.

Huda Beauty Overachiever Concealer

I don’t have much to say about this. I simply love it! It’s a favorite! Read my full review here.

MAC Studio Fix Concealer

Again, nothing much to say and you can read my full review here. I’ll keep repurchasing because it’s a favorite!

Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Wheat

I bought this purely to do a full face of Fenty Beauty makeup, but this is too drying for dry skin. Even if you warm it up on the back of your hand like Pricilla Ono says, it still gets caked up under my eyes. This is one of the few regrets this year.

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher

The shade her website recommended is too dark for me (I should’ve bought shade no 3) but this formula is so hydrating and perfect for under eyes or covering blemishes. Getting the product out is a bit tricky, but it’s a favorite!

Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Setting Powders

There’s a lot of controversy on how this Powder was advertised, but I love these! I’m currently using Banana Bread on me, and it’s amazing! It doesn’t crease or doesn’t cake up. If you have very oily skin you might need retouching, but for dry skin, it’s your new best friend! It’s a favorite! Read my review here.

Contour & Highlight

MAC Studio Fix Sculpt & Shape Palettes

These are the only contour palettes I bought this year, simply to add to my kit for clients. I love both of them. They’re my favorites! Full review here.

Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Truffle

This shade is a tad bit too dark for me, but I love the formula! It blends like a dream and looks so beautiful on your skin. It’s a definite favorite!

NYX Wonder Stick in Universal

The most affordable, yet best cream contour ever! This is so creamy and blends so well! I love the highlight side too! It gives a glass-like effect! Definitely a favorite!

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Palette

Again, the palette I got for myself is a bit too dark (specially the highlighter) BUT this is one of favorite bronzers for sure! It’s a favorite!

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighters

I have 2 highlighter duos and a single. They are all ah-mazing! My favorite duo is Sandcastle/Mint’d Mojito and the Diamond Bomb is just out of the world! Favorites, favorites!

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter Palette

TBH I didn’t even touch this palette. By the looks of it, and with experience on their Killawatt Highlighters, I can say this will make it to the favorites list. I shall I use this tomorrow and see!

Blush, baby!

KKW Beauty Karma Blush

This is the deepest blush shade I own (it’s a deep berry shade with golden micro-shimmer that isn’t very noticeable once applied) it lasts a very long time and is such a gorgeous shade! It’s easy to work with and comes in a very cute packaging. It’s a favorite!

NARS Liquid Blush in Orgasm

At first I loved it! But then, I didn’t like it so much. I don’t understand the hype around Orgasm range. I realized that in the end, they don’t work on me. I gave my blush to my best friend and she loves it. This was a regret for me.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Blush

This blush sold out so fast even on the second release and no wonder it did! I’m so glad CT is making it permanent from next year! It’s so soft, muted and gorgeous! Read my full review here. It’s a favorite!

Eyeshadows

This is my weakness, my drug. I have so many eyeshadow palettes and I keep de-potting and decluttering, but I still end up buying a lot!

Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette

This was an impulse buy when I was in Turkey. I don’t regret it, I honestly love it! It’s a favorite! Review is here.

Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Palette

This is so far my favourite palette this year. I hated the original one she released two years ago. This is just so beautiful. It’s a favorite! Full review here.

KKW x Mario Palette

I wasn’t sure about this palette at first, but I’m so in love with KKW Beauty eyeshadow formula. This is my fav KKW eyeshadow palette out of the 3. It’s a favorite. Review is here.

KKW Beauty Classic & Classic Blossom Palettes

There isn’t much to say, both palettes are favorites. Classic review here.

Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Palette

Don’t get me wrong, I love this palette but in all honestly I don’t use it as much as I use my other palettes! It’s not a regret, nor a favorite. I think it’s only because I have way too many eyeshadow palettes… Read my full review here.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette

If you loved Modern Renaissance (I know that’s not even a question!) you will love Soft Glam more! Finally, the formula is the same (not like Subculture and Prism) and if you’re a neutrals lover just like me, you will worship this palette. It’s a definite favorite!

Lips!

I bought so many lip products this year and I’m going to list my favorites first:

  • Fenty Beauty Gloss Bombs (Fenty Glow & Diamond Milk)
  • Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paints (Uncensored, Uncuffed, Unveil, Unbutton, Uninvited)
  • Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks (Pillow Talk & Red Carpet Red)
  • KKW Beauty Creme Lipsticks (Classic K & Pink 6)
  • MAC Creamsheen lipstick (Modesty)
  • MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick (Dance with me)
  • MAC Grand Illusion (Pink Trip & Electric Rainbow)

Regrets:

  • ColourPop My Little Pony (Ultra Glossy Lip & Ultra Matte Lip)
