I got a lot of requests on my Instagram to recreate Meghan Markle’s wedding makeup look, but I still couldn’t find the exact list of products her makeup artist used on her. (Waiting patiently till some magazine publishes it!) So i thought it would be better to do a look inspired by her makeup, rather than recreating it.
Let’s see… What everyone talked about was how natural her skin was. There was barely any base on her face. There was definitely some blush and highlight (perhaps a bit of bronzing too) but there wasn’t a trace of foundation you could see. Instead, her eyes were the main focus with her usual subtle smokey eye paired with rosy nude lips.
Such freshness in a world of #instagrammakeup !
To do my take on her makeup, I dissected her look and tried to adopt it to my face shape, colour and overall features. The key was to look fresh and glowing. My skin has been doing amazing since I came to Istanbul 3 weeks back, so I hardly wear foundation these days. I skipped foundation entirely.
I started by applying Fresh Beauty Vitamin Nectar Face Glow moisturiser (a generous dosage, like how Charlotte Tilbury applies her Magic Cream!) Then another generous dollop of Mac Strobe Cream in Pinklite to give that extra glow from within.
I applied usual concealer, MAC Studio Finish Concealer (NW30) with my fingers (the best way to use this concealer, since the heat of your body melts in nicely. I didn’t set it immediately. I let crease as usual while working on the rest of my face.
Meghan definitely had blush on, so I applied a very light amount of Winter Berry by Becca Cosmetics with a MAC 168 brush. I have very limited amount of makeup here since I left more than 3/4 of my collection back in Sri Lanka. With the same brush, I tapped a little bit of Bronzed Bondy from Becca over the blush, over my nose and on the sides of my forehead.
For highlighter I used KKW Beauty Powder Contour & Highlight kit because that’s so finely milled and looks incredibly gorgeous on the skin. I mixed both colours with my Real Techniques fan brush and applied on the high points of my cheeks, the bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow.
I know that Meghan loves Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria lipstick, but I wasn’t sure if it’s the same colour she wore for her wedding. I used CT’s Pillow Talk, my ultimate fav lipstick and the matching lipliner…
For the eyes, since I don’t have much makeup here (and I’ve lost my black eyeshadow here too!) I used NYX Cosmetics’ Eye Gloss in Dirty Talk as a base. I’m not a big fan of this product because it creases! So I applied it as thinly as possible with a MAC 286 brush, blending it well on to the crease but not exceeding it. Over this, I applied Bobbi Brown’s Gel Liner in Black with a MAC 219 brush and smudge it on the lid, slightly dragging it outwards to create an illusion of a soft wing.
Meghan was definitely wearing a lot of lashes; individuals maybe. I don’t have any fake lashes with me, so I have to use only mascara. My favourite: L’Oreal Lash Extension.
Megan had natural looking brows, though it was definitely filled. I lightly filled the gaps with Benefit’s Precisely, My Brows pencil in no 4.
Finally, I smoothed the creases under my eyes (with fingertip of course) and sprayed some Fix Plus all over my face.
This is definitely not a recreation. I was very much inspired by Megan Markle to create a look that is not only fresh, but doesn’t cover you in a mask of makeup. I love the fact that she’s proud of her freckles. I added some freckles with MAC Costa Riche eyeliner. You can use MAC’s Teddy eyeliner too (a known fav of Meghan)
Let me know what you think…
