Hit the pan: 2016

Okay, this post is my answer to the number one question people ask me all the time: “What do you do with all that make up you buy?”

Ummm… I actually use them, like… DUH!

So here’s some proof that happened this year and I will tell you whether I will repurchase them or not 🙂

1. Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer:

Honestly I  finished this 3 years ago and I kept it with me to do this post once I gather at least 10 empties/hit-pans to write about! I LOVE this concealer because back in that day (bought this in 2012) I used to wear only this under my eyes (no colour correctors or even setting powders!) and it lasted the whole day without looking ashy, getting creased or fading away!

Would I repurchase? YES! I’m waiting to stock up some high-end products this coming holiday season 🙂

2. MAC Mineralise Timecheck Lotion:

IMG_6433

You guys know this was coming… I started using this from June 2015 and I’m already on my 4th bottle. It visibly blurs the pores and fine lines and this is being used at a lot of runway shows these days (if you check MAC instagram stories, you will see!) because it gives a beautiful glow to the skin too.

Would I repurchase: Already repurchased 5 times, darlings! (including the back up bottle)

3. Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover:

This is a great dupe for Lancôme Bi-Facil Makeup Remover. The full size bottle (200 ml!!!) costs only US$ 15.00 whereas the Lancôme remover costs US$ 39.00 for 200 ml. Sephora one is not as gentle as the Lancôme one, but for the price, who can complain? I first bought the 50 ml bottle to check and I loved it because it removed the toughest waterproof products in seconds. I finished the bottle in 3 months and went straight ahead for the 200 ml bottle.

Would I repurchase: Yes. I’m waiting to go to a Sephora soon!

4. Sephora Soothing Cleansing Milk:

This is like best cleanser friend for dry skin! It leaves your skin extremely smooth. Already on my 2nd bottle this year.

Would I repurchase: Yes!

5. L’Oreal Super Intenza Gel Liner:

I finished one pot of this and now half-way done with the second. It’s a great gel liner that doesn’t dry from the drugstore. It’s nice and creamy and doesn’t dry super fast.

Would I repurchase: I think I’ll stop with the second pot and upgrade to Ingot 77 eyeliner because that’s the blackest black eyeliner ever.

6. MAC Brush Cleaner:

Half-way down my second bottle. This is good to clean small brushes like eyeshadow brushes but takes a while to dry if you clean bigger face brushes. Synthetic bristles will dry faster with this cleaner, and this smells amazing.

Would I repurchase: Since I get the pro discount from MAC, I’ll purchase again.

7. ABH That Glow Kit highlighter Bubbly:

The first time I hit a powder pan in just 4 months! It’s too bad this palette is limited edition. Bubbly is the one and only highlighter I’ve been using all this year with my favourite Morphe M501 brush. This kit is great if you have fair to medium skin.

Would I repurchase: If I can find this limited edition palette, definitely!

8. ABH eyeshadows Hot Chocolate & Raw Sienna:

IMG_9651IMG_5615

Hot Chocolate is the first eyeshadow I hit pan. It’s a beautiful deep chocolate shade that I always put on my lower lash line instead of pencil liner for a soft definition. This is luckily available as a single, but Raw Sienna is not 😦 Raw Sienna is hands down the best transition shade ever, but I saw that Makeup Geek’s Tiki Hut is a dupe for this so I might buy that.

Would I repurchase: If they make a single, yes!

9. NARS Bronzer- Casino:

Been using this constantly for 2 years and this is like best bronzer for medium/tan skin. It’s not too orange and not too shimmery, and whenever I can’t decide on a bronzer, I reah out for this. It gives the perfect sun-kissed look when you apply lightly with a fluffy brush.

Would I repurchase: Yes!

10. MAC Studio Fix Powder:

img_7895

I wouldn’t even try another tinted pressed powder just because this is so good. It’s super soft and doesn’t look cake-y at all. The more you load on, the more real-life-photoshopped you look.

Would I repurchase: Yes, and in many different shades too!

11. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer:

If your concealer creases no matter what, look no further and get this bad boy. I’ve been using this for exactly a year and nothing beats this concealer. It stays the whole day, locked into place with minimal creasing and fading. If you have dry skin, you don’t need to set this either.

Would I repurchase: Yes

12. The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Shower Gel:

Finished two bottles within 6 months and I love how refreshing this smells.

Would I repurchase: Yes

13. The Body Shop Body Butters in Fuji Green Tea and Moringa:

I received Moringa as a gift from The Body Shop. It has a very strong smell and will work good on normal skin. The Fuji Green Tea butter was better for extra dry skin, and it doesn’t smell too strong like Moringa.

Would I repurchase: I would repurchase Fuji Green Tea Body Butter

14. The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation:

IMG_3061

Finally a foundation I managed to finish!!! I bought this following the opening of their flagship store in Colombo (In March) and I’d been using this constantly ever since. Within 9 months I hit the bottom of the bottle (I used this rarely on my clients as most of them match MAC NC42 foundation here in Sri Lanka) This is great if you have dry skin.

Would I repurchase: Yes

15. Lancome Absolue Day Cream:

I received this in a gift set and this is the first day cream I used on a daily basis. (yup, I was super late to realize how important face moisturizers are!) This is a very light cream and gave intense moisture to my face during very cold and dry days.

Would I repurchase: Yes. A good dupe is The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream.

16. MAC Matte Bronze Bronzer:

IMG_5359

When I first got this I was not very happy because it was very light compared to my other bronzers but since I started using it as a contour its performance seems much better. If you have fair to medium skin you can use this as a subtle contour. It’s not highly pigmented but it is build-able. I use MAC 164 brush to use this product.

Would I repurchase: Yes

27. MAC Mineralize Concealer:

I was not entirely happy about this product because it’s not full coverage. If you have deep dark circles you should avoid this by all means. It was not build-able and didn’t last as much as any other concealer.

Would I repurchase: No

18. NYX “Toffee” contour shade from Contour & Highlight Pro Palette:

IMG_7091IMG_7092

I love the contour shades on this palette and I’ve hit pan on the shade “Toffee”, which is a warm shade suitable for medium skin tones. It’s a great colour for both contouring and bronzing. These colours are also available for individual purchase.

Would I repurchase: Yes

19. BH Cosmetics “Softlight” shade from Forever Nude Sculpting Palette:

IMG_3805 copyIMG_3754 copy
This was my first ever contour and highlight palette and I was so excited when I first received it. I’d been using it continuously last year (now I just use the MAC Studio Fix Powders to set my concealer) and the shade I hit pan on is the banana yellow shade call “softlight”. It’s finely milled and very pigmented as you can see from the swatches above. It was a nice powder to set and further highlight my under eyes.

Would I repurchase: Not really. I don’t use the other colours on this palette and I love MAC powders right now.

20. MAC In Extreme Dimension Mascara

IMG_53611

I love how thick and curly my lashes look with this mascara.

Would I repurchase: Yes. I would get the waterproof formula because non-waterproof mascara gets very messy in humid weather

21. Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara

img_8179

On my second tube already so that says something! This is a very unique formula that’s non-waterproof but doesn’t easily come-off unless you’re completely removing it. You don’t need a lash curler with this one so it lengthens, curls and adds volume at the same time.

Would I repurchase: Yes for sure.

22. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I haven’t written a review for this one but I love it so much. It gives very spidery long lashes and curls really well at the same time. I don’t mind splurging a bit for mascara because for me, mascara is as important as a good concealer.

Would I repurchase: Yes

23. Saleha Beauty Arabian Nights Eyeliner

Sadly, one of the most horrible eyeliners I’ve ever used. I wonder if it’s from a bad batch, but this was very patchy and almost dark brown (it says black!) and it dried up really fast. I didn’t even bother to write a review but I’ve seen Tamanna from DressYourFace use this one on her models/clients and it looks deep black then. I really don’t want to recommend this because there are so many other good liquid eyeliners in the market anyway.

Would I repurchase: No

24. Sephora Long Lasting Kohl Pencil in Black

Pretty similar to Maybelline Master Kohl Liner. This is super black and I’ve used up about 3 of these pencils. It smudges a bit but I love how black it is!

Would I repurchase: Yes

25. MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW35

After 3 years of continuous usage, I hit pan on MAC Studio Finish Concealer, like finally! This is an amazing full coverage concealer and as you can see, it lasts a long time so definitely worth your money!

Would I repurchase: Yes!

So that’s all the things I hit pan by the end of this year… Unless you use them religiously (except for pencils and mascaras) makeup hardly finish or even hit-pan but I was kind of on a project to use everything I have before buying more.

What are the products you hit-pan/finish this year? Will you repurchase them?

Sending you some seasonal greetings!

Xx
