As every makeup brand out their has been releasing contour palettes of all sorts, MAC also came up with a mini palette in 4 varieties to fit different skin tones a few months back. The collection was named “All The Right Angles”, and each palette contained 3 different sculpting products pre-made to match each skin tone (Light, Medium, Medium Dark, Dark) and 2 duo fibre brushes (164 Curved Sculpting Brush and 188 Small Face Brush)
I had no intention of buying anything from this collection (as I already have Anastasia Contour Kit, NYX Highlight and Contour Kit, BH Forever Nude Sculpt and Glow Kit, Aesthetica Cream and Powder contour kits and a few more that I can’t even remember) but it was brought into my attention the same day I bought the MAC mascaras (read my review here) and I instantly fell in love with the “dark” palette and the brush 164.
I have medium/dark skin these days (generally I have NC35-40 skin but I got more tanned this time) and anyway, the “Medium” and “Medium/Dark” palettes were too light (and a bit too warm) to show up on me, so I decided to go ahead with “Dark” palette.
This palette has:
- Cream Colour Base in Improper Copper
- Shaping Powder in Warm Light
- Sculpting Powder in Definitive
The packaging: Is what I love mostly about this palette It’s so compact and super travel friendly. The Cream Colour Base is on the bottom of the palette which can be opened by shifting the top tray that contain the powders to the right. There’s a decent sized mirror inside, and as someone who travel frequently, this palette saves so much space and weight for me, so I highly recommend this for personal use if you’re a travel bug.
Price: Was US$ 40.00 at the time of my purchase (I paid TRY 150.00 which was a whopping amount for just 3 face products!) But MAC reduced the price to US$ 28.00 (New price in Turkey is: TRY 105.00)
Swatches:
Improper Copper: I love applying the cream colour base after foundation for a beautiful luminous glow on my cheeks. The shade is shimmery copper, and when I pack my favourite highlighter shade “Bubbly” from ABH That Glow Kit, it’s the most beautiful and natural highlight ever! I use all 3 products in the palette to create a natural-looking contour everyday. I use my fingers to apply this shade.
Warm Light: This also doubles up as a blush, and this Shaping Powder can be used to blend the contour further up for a seamless finish. This shade is a very warm peach and I use my Morphe M523 brush to apply and blend it generously on my cheeks after the Sculpting Powder.
Definitive: Is a neutral deep brown that is perfect for contouring. I love my Anastasia palette for contouring, but I find the shades to be a bit too warm so Definitive is great because it’s very neutral. As I have warm skin tone, cool contour powders look muddy on me, so if you’re on the same boat, this shade is great for you. (Available for individual purchase) I apply this with the amazing 164 brush from the same collection.
MAC 164 Brush:
I think I finally found my Contour Brush after purchasing so many. This guy is great because of the slight curvy shape. It helps carve out the cheekbones effortlessly in a few swipes. The duo fibre bristles make it even easier to blend it seamlessly.
Price: US$ 35.00 (It was TRY 115.00 and now TRY 80.50 in Turkey)
Final Thoughts: For the new price, the Contour Palette is so worth because it’s so compact and travel friendly, and the products are amazing. I know the brush is very pricey, but you know you can never go wrong with a MAC brush so I definitely recommend it, specially if you’ve had a hard time picking the right contour brush. Seriously, the brush cuts down your contouring time in more than half because it’s like a magic wand to me! I recommend both products even though there are many other options out there from other brands.
Here’s a picture of before and after contouring with the products mentioned here:
