BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette Review

Ok so I FINALLY got this in the mail… Getting this palette into my hands was one heck of a drama…

The moment I got to know about YouTube beauty guru Carli Bybel’s collaboration with BH Cosmetics, I knew I had to get it because it just had to be a really good palette. I mean, Carli gives very honest reviews about every makeup product available out there on her channel, and she can’t be doing anything wrong when she’s making a palette, right? Really, a pot can’t call a kettle black, isn’t it? 😉

This was launched on the 8th of September in the very, very early morning in America. It was around 9-10am over here in Sri Lanka, and we were wide awake as we were already going through the mid-morning break at office, while most of the Americans were sleeping except for those makeup junkies who were waiting desperately for this palette to launch. When BH Cosmetics launched it so suddenly on their website, the entire stock disappeared. It sold out within hours and the site crashed.

I was so lucky to be one of the few who had no problems with the site crashing or orders misplacing, and I placed my order with two of my makeup BFFs at the same time. But only two of us got the palette and by the time my third friend ordered it, it was sold out. She was notified about this weeks later, so the customer care was a bit iffy during the whole time. Even my order was shipped about 2 weeks later, and I received it 6 weeks after I placed the order… (Generally, BH Cosmetics ship fast)

For those of you who couldn’t get it, you can sign up for an email notification when the palette comes back in stock… Check out www.bhcosmetics.com for that…

Ok.. so that was a long story… let’s talk about the product…

The palette is a cardboard box with a magnetic closure, which is my preferred way of packaging. I find cardboard boxes to be super light in comparison to metal boxes. (Like, duh!)

I love that she chose a classy print for the lid and interior. It’s white with silver lettering and a tiny penguin on the side, which is also a cute detail.

Inside you get: A decent sized mirror, no brushes, but 10 shades of eyeshadow and 4 highlighters.

Let me show you the swatches next, and then we’ll talk about them 🙂

These are one-swipe swatches, made without any primers.

The quality of each and EVERY SINGLE shade is: PHENOMENAL! I’ve never seen such good quality eyeshadow, even in MakeupGeek, Anastasia or super-high-end brands like Dior, Chanel, Tom Ford, etc…

The hand-feel is: Pretty similar to Colour Pop… It feels so buttery velvety smooth, and they glide on the lids like a dream… Literally… You don’t need primers, but I recommend one for longer wearability and no-creasing.

Pigmentation: Is S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G like I can’t even 😀 It’s the best I’ve seen in my life. There isn’t a single dud in this palette in terms of colour pay-off

Colour Variation: Okay… Here comes the only bit of negativity I have to say about this palette. Honestly, there’s a good selection of shades you can use on your brow bone, lid, inner corners, crease, lower lash line AND you cheeks, but there’re 3 shades that have their twins in this palette.

  1. Shades 6 & 7 (looks slightly different at an angle)
  2. Shades 9 & 14 (looks exactly the same)
  3. Shades 2 & 11 (the similarity is very slight here)

I wish she chose 3 more shades that weren’t so similar like that. But this is the only con I have to say, I promise. Apart from that, I love the colour palette overall, and I think it’s perfect for Fall and the upcoming holiday season.

Finishes: There are 4 mattes and 6 shimmer eyeshadows plus 4 highlighters (two of them have dupes among the eyeshadows) and the matte shades are great for crease and brow bone.

Tips to use: You can use either fingers or brushes to apply these, and when you apply the highlighters, I recommend you use a very light-hand because these babies are crazy pigmented!

Here’s a look I created using Carli Bybel palette:

Price of the palette: Was US$ 12.50 which is a STEAL for such good quality. I mean, go away, Christian Dior! Go away, Chanel! This palette is living proof that you don’t have to pay a lot of money to get high quality makeup. (It is vegan, paraben free AND cruelty-free) Just look around, beauties… Drugstore is getting better every day!

I hope they will make this palette permanent so everyone can have it. It’s such a good deal! I’m in love 🙂

I’ll see you soon,

Xx
