Review for NYX Conceal, Correct, Contour Palette in Medium

Lately, I’ve been turning more towards drugstore products and NYX is one of my favourite drugstore brands. When I saw their Conceal, Correct, Contour palette I didn’t think twice and ordered it on allcosmeticswholesale.com (If you live in the US, you can order through their website too) because you guys know how much I love concealers!!!

This palette was US$12.00 and the reason I took so long to buy this is because the colour medium was always sold out. This palette comes in 3 shades: Light, Medium and Dark.

My review is only on the shade Medium…

Packaging: You know packaging is very important to me regardless the price. I love this little plastic container. It feels sturdy and shuts properly so it instantly becomes travel friendly. It doesn’t feel cheap at all! NYX has done a good job with this packaging.

Colour variation: Now I believe the bottom shades are definitely for correcting, because the bottom left shade has a green undertone and the bottom right is quite peachy. The middle row right side shade is the darkest so again I believe it is for contouring. The other 3 shades looked quite similar when swatched on my skin, I can’t really figure out which one is for highlighting. (Confusion, confusion!!!)

Anyway, here are the swatches:

Consistency: All of these shades are very thick. They feel extremely waxy so recommend using your fingers to apply these. You need a little extra effort to blend and smooth it out. Do not use brushes to apply or blend! (A BeautyBlender could do) They do cover well, though.

Pigmentation: Is fairly good, but they swatch slightly different from the pan.

Now I don’t know if I bought the wrong palette (I think fair is too fair for me and dark would be too dark for me!) but the shade that’s supposed to contour is too light for medium skin, specially if you have a tan. I wish it was darker and there was a lighter shade for highlighting.

Let’s see how it works on my face:

Here’s my bare face (except for eye makeup):

Next I applied the peachy shade under my eyes to correct the blueness and cover my eyebags. As you can see, it doesn’t appear that peachy like it’s supposed to be. Instead it looks quite pale. Unfortunately (or can I say fortunately 😀 ) I don’t have any redness to cover with that greenish shade. I applied the contour shade on the sides of my nose and under the cheekbones:

Then I applied the top row right side shade on top of the peachy shade as a concealer, brushed some translucent powder and some bronzer to set them up:

Wear-time: It lasted all day and surprisingly it didn’t settle into fine-lines or  creased. It didn’t feel so heavy despite the thick waxy formula.

Overall thoughts: This is a very confusing palette for me. I like the formula (It’s cruelty free too!) But I don’t like the arrangement of the colours. I would use the contour shade only to contour my nose. I don’t think the correcting colours actually correct because they look too pale on the skin. I would keep this just as a concealer palette. I don’t recommend this palette (Sorry NYX, I still love you though) You could buy the MAC conceal and correct palette (because they’re simply awesome!) Or splurge a little bit more and get the Anastasia Beverly Hills cream contour kit.

I hope this review helped you,

See you soon,

Neth Mi
